Copts are Christian Egyptians and members of the Coptic Church. The vast majority of Egypt was once Coptic before islamisation and arabisation. Coptic Christianity is one of the oldest form of Christianity in the world and is related to Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and the defunct Nubian Church("Ethiopia" in the Bible). The closest spoken language to the extinct ancient Egyptian tongue can be found in the liturgies spoken in the Coptic Church, just like extinct Geez(language of the Axumite Empire) in the Ethiopian Church, and extinct Latin(language of the Roman Empire) in the Catholic Church.
