The article is a do it yourself(DIY) resource on energy. Solar energy is available 365 days in the year and to harness it is not that complicated, but yet most in the tropics and most of African descent are energy deficient. A simple energy system has a source (wind or solar) that goes to a Charge Controller, Battery Bank, and Inverter. The following article provides information links to the latter three components. This article will try to remain more text base due to bandwidth. Video requires more bandwidth.

Deep Cycle Battery Maintenance by Trojan Battery Company(PDF)
Car batteries are meant to give large amounts of juice for a very short period. Once they've done their work turning over the engine, they are immediately recharged by the car's alternator. In a solar power setup, while the draw mightn't be as brutal in short bursts, it can continue for a very long time - for example, overnight. Car batteries aren't made for this type of application and will wear out quickly.
