Ghana is an african country located in West Africa, bordered by Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, and Togo to the east, with a location of 8 00 N, 2 00 W. Ghana occupies an area 238,533 sq km. Accra is the capital. English is the official language. DemographicsGhana has a population of 24,791,073 with a life expectancy of 61 years. Ghana is 45.3% Akan,15.2% Mole-Dagbon, 11.7% Ewe, 7.3% Ga-Dangme, 4% Guan, 3.6% Gurma, 2.6% Grusi, 1% Mande-Busanga, other ethnics 1.4%, and other 7.8%. The country is 68.8% Christian, 15.9% muslim, 8.5% traditional, 0.7% other, and 6.1% none. It has a 57.9% literacy rate, 66.4% for males and 49.8% females.

HistoryThe present day country of Ghana was the site of very powerful Akan States( Akyem, Asante, Assin, Akuapem, Akuamu, Bono (Bron),Denkyira, Etsi, Fante, Gyaaman, Kwahu, Twifo, and Wassa) vying with each other, through warfare for dominance of the region. Asante would emerge as the pre-eminent power in the region after 1802.
In 1902, the region was conquered by the British and made a crown colony.

Serious consideration of the establishment of a Ghana Stock exchange began in February of 1989 of a 10 member National Committee headed by Dr. G.K. Agama, head of the Bank of Ghana, commissioned by the government of Ghana. The formation of the committee lead to the establishment of the Ghana Stock Exchange in July of 1989, as a private company, under the Companies Code of 1963. In October 1990, it was recognized as a stock exchange under the Stock Exchange Act of 1971 (Act 384). On November 12, 1990 trading began on the floor. The Ghana Stock Exchange became a public company in 1994. As of 2013, there are 35 official listed companies in Ghana's major economic sectors of finance, mining, manufacturing, trading, brewery, and pharmaceuticals. The exchange is presently located at 5th Floor, Cedi House, Liberia Road, Accra.
CuisinePopular Ghanaian dish include dough-like dishes kenkey, fermented cooked corn dough and banku made from mixed corn flower and cassava flower, abe nkwan palm nut soup. Askenkee is a popular beverage made from kenkey. Popular alcoholic drinks include pito, made from sorghum and found in the north; akpeteshie made from the palm tree sap.
