Guyana is a South American country, located 5 00 N, 59 00 W, with Venezuela to the west, Suriname to the east, and Brazil to the south. It has an area of 14,969 sq km. English is the official language, but the country speaks an English base creole, Amerindian dialects, Caribbean Hindustani( a dialect of Hindi), and Urdu.
DemographicsThe country is 43.5% East Indian, 30.2% black, 16.7% mixed, 9.1% Amerindian , 0.5% other(2002 census) with a population of 739,903. The country is Protestant 31.6% (Pentecostal 16.9%, Anglican 6.9%, Seventh-Day Adventist 5%, Methodist 1.7%, Jehovah's Witnesses 1.1%), 28.4% Hindu , 8.1% Roman Catholic, 7.2% Muslim , 4.3% other (2002 census). Average Life Expectancy is 67.39 years with a 91.8% literacy rate.
