Kingdom of Kong

Kingdom of Kong was an early trading state expanded by Seku Wattara. Seku Wattara came from the Masina Region, when he invaded Kong. He overthrew traditional Kong leader Lasire Gombele, bringing all surrounding territories under his control. Mounted cavalry was utilize to bring about the conquest. Seku Wattara engaged in raiding of neighbors to control the gold and kola trade. In 1725, he invaded Segu but was thwarted by Mamari Kulibali.
