Leprosy

Leprosy is an ancient disease caused by Mycobacterium Leprae. It is marked by skin lesion, decreased sensory nerves, and weakened muscles. Symptoms may not occur immediately but may take years to manifest. Children are more susceptibe to the disease. It is not known how leprosy is transferred.

Cure:
  • antibiotics taken in combination (dapsone, rifampin, clofazamine, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, and minocycline)
  • Aspirin, prednisone, or thalidomide is used to alleviate inflammation
